The Purbeck 30 is our promise of provision for every Purbeck sixth former. We provide a carefully assembled blend of academic study and experiential opportunities, amounting to a minimum of thirty hours per school week. These include:

• 14 hours teaching time (averaged over the two weeks)
• 2.25 hours pastoral/PHSE time
• 1.25 hour of planned enrichment
• 30 minutes specifically dedicated to student wellbeing (from a suggested menu of activities)

12 hours of independent learning – set by subjects with 4 hours per subject (that will be 2 hours per teacher per week); this to be completed in Silent Study (SS), Independent Learning Periods (ILPs) and a student’s own time.

We have completed extensive research around andragogy (the science of helping adult learners, focusing on methods and principles distinct from teaching children) and worked collaboratively with subject heads. Following this work, now deliver a programme dedicated to effective independent learning with both Year 12 and Year 13 students, including input on effective academic reading, research skills and successful note taking.

The students have all been provided with Independent Learning Schedules (ILS) by their subject teachers – these specify the independent learning taking place each week. Due to the nature of teaching and learning, each ILS is of course subject to slight changes.
