  • Leadership Project visit to Hartland Farm

    Published 06/10/25

On Wednesday, this year’s cohort on The National Trust’s Leadership Programme made their first outside learning visit as we visited Hartland Farm near Corfe Castle. We were welcomed by The National Trust’s Jill (Senior Volunteering & Community Officer and Mark (Countryside Manager), and Jake the tenant farmer at Hartland. The group of Year 12 and 13 students eagerly grasped binoculars and set off on a tractor trailer tour of the farm’s extensive land. Jake educated us about leading ecological initiatives including tree planting and the benefits of bull pits which are dug by bulls and can create unique, localised habitats for pioneer plants and insects.

  • Year 11 Netball League

    Published 03/10/25

The girls played out of their skins at the netball league yesterday. They probably faced their most difficult competition of the league so far. But they have really come into their own, Cerys now holds her space beautifully, which allows Immi and Leah to place beautiful high balls into the circle, for Cerys to score from.

As always, Lucy pops the ball in for fun from anywhere in the circle. The defence makes it hard for the other team to score, and although we still need to work on backline passes, the girls really work hard at bringing the ball out of defence and up the court. The first game was very close against QE, but the girls managed to win 6V5, the second game was against St Edwards. This was end-to-end stuff, goal for goal. We did at one point get into the lead, but St Edwards did not give up, and we ended up drawing 8V8. Poole High was the girls' third game.

  • Year 12 trip to The London Library

    Published 30/09/25

We are very fortunate as a school to have a fully funded membership of The London Library, a private members’ library for the field of Humanities. This is made possible by an anonymous donor, to whom we are extremely grateful.  Pupils can access their entire collection, both physical and digital, and it is of enormous use to 6th formers researching projects for EPQ and NEA work.
This week we had the added treat of visiting in person. After a quick introduction to the history of the building and collection, and a guide to its physical layout, students were let loose in its 17 miles of shelved books. We had given our topics of interest to the librarian in advance, and she had kindly created a printed list of suggested resources relevant to their studies – our mission was to find those books in the mass of tunnels, shelves, raised platforms and slightly terrifying see-through wrought iron balconies.

  • The year 10 and 11 More Able group enjoyed a visit to the Houses of Parliament

    Published 30/09/25

A picnic in the sun was very welcome after the long journey, and before a long walk. We had a tour of the iconic building, seeing both the House of Commons and the House of Lords as Parliament was not sitting that day. We learnt about the democratic process as well as some of the history of government and various politicians. Our tour guides commented on how inquisitive and engaged our pupils were.

  • Year 11 Netball League

    Published 30/09/25

The girls had their first round of their league last night. It was so lovely to see them play such beautiful, flowing netball, the last 4 years of training accumulating into a mutual understanding of where each other's space is, the central passes worked beautifully, and the team really gelled. As a result, they won their first game against Lytchett 11 V 6, and their second game against Parkstone B  8 V 7. It was wonderful to see Cerys holding her space in the circle, where perfect balls were fed in from the attack, Immy, Lucy, and Leah, often resulting in Cerys scoring goals right under the post.
