Year 11 Netball League

Potentially, yesterday was the last netball fixtures these girls will play. Five years of regular training, commitment, and really coming together as a team have paid off, I couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. The first game was against Ferndown, who again were a formidable team, most players playing outside of school in local leagues, sadly, there are not many local leagues within travelling distance for our girls to take part, so they do not have the luxury of this. Due to injuries and other commitments, we were two players down, Izzy and Hettie slotted into the team perfectly and they played absolutely brilliantly. In this game the girls were winning all the way through, but due to a couple of silly mistakes where Ferndown scored and then it was goal for goal. Immi was back in her favourite position at WA and she has now consistently perfected her feed into the circle.

Lucy has never disappointed with her shooting and leaves teams in awe at her ability to put the ball in the net from any position in the D, no matter what pressure she is under, therefore this game finished in a draw. The last game of the tournament was against Corfe Hills, another good team, and the team who had beaten us comfortably yesterday. Although the girls were aware they had a tough game, this did not deter them. They played phenomenally, and again were in the lead for the majority of the match. Olivia’s defending has really come on now, no more being tentative, she was feisty, made some great interceptions, and also got some great rebounds. Sophie also played her heart out, and got a couple of interceptions, and made it really difficult for the GA to get free and score, Trina and Abby as always helped move the ball up court smoothly, trying their hardest to put pressure on their opposition.
Sadly towards the last couple of minutes of the game Corfe Hills pulled ahead and won by two goals. We then had a little while to find out the overall results of the tournament. The girls thought we had come fifth out of nine, imagine their surprise to find out we had come third!!!! This is honestly a fantastic achievement and when I say I am proud, I genuinely mean this. They have been an incredible bunch of girls, kind, committed, brilliant leaders and role models, everything as a school we could ask of our students. It has been a real pleasure watch them grow from little year 7’s to where they are now. I have enjoyed taking them away on fixtures, they always bring a smile to my face, they are always polite, considerate of the opposition, with a real sense of loveliness, it is wonderful to see their progression over five years, and it is testament to their hard work in coming third in this competition (which was full of good teams.)

They have been real stars and I’m so happy that they have achieved their potential, and this tournament recognises that, so a huge well done to all the girls that have taken part, you have done yourselves proud. Mrs Davies
